Competent appellate work, but communication could improve

I engaged Doug Hallward-Driemeier for a complex First Amendment appeal. His deep knowledge of appellate procedure and his recognition in that practice area were evident; his brief was exceptionally well-researched and structured. He clearly leveraged his Harvard Law and Ropes & Gray background. However, the experience was mixed. While the legal product was solid, communication was sometimes delayed, making it difficult to get timely updates on case strategy. For straightforward legal expertise, he is capable, but managing client expectations and responsiveness were merely adequate. I would describe him as a skilled attorney whose service delivery has room for refinement.
