Competent on construction dispute, but communication was a challenge

I hired Donald Gray at Givens Pursley to handle a payment dispute with a subcontractor on a commercial remodel project in Boise. His background in construction law and litigation was evident; he understood the technical aspects of the lien waiver issue immediately and his analysis of our contract was thorough. The recognition he's received in construction law is well-deserved from a technical standpoint. The outcome of our case was ultimately favorable. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. There were periods where responses to emails took several days, which added to our stress during negotiations. At times, I felt I had to follow up to get updates on procedural steps. While his legal strategy was sound, setting clearer expectations on timelines and maintaining more consistent client communication would have improved the experience significantly. For straightforward legal matters in real estate or construction, his nine years of Idaho-specific experience and firm resources are an asset, but be prepared to be proactive in managing the communication flow.
