I engaged Derek Van Tassell, KC of Stringam LLP for assistance with a residential property purchase in the Philadelphia area. His recognition in Real Estate Law by Best Lawyers was a key factor in my decision, and that expertise was evident in his handling of the transaction's legal complexities. He was thorough with the title review and contract details, which provided reassurance. However, my experience was mixed. While his legal advice was sound, the communication flow was inconsistent. There were periods of several days where I received no updates, and responses to my emails sometimes took longer than I expected. For a straightforward transaction, his one year of focused experience in this area was sufficient, but I felt the client service aspect didn't fully match the professional recognition. The outcome was successful, and the work product was solid, but the process felt more transactional than collaborative. He is clearly knowledgeable, but managing client expectations and proactive communication could be enhanced.
