I engaged Dennis Miller of Jones Walker to assist with a complex zoning variance issue for a small commercial property I own in Jackson. His nearly five decades of experience, particularly his recognized expertise in government relations, were immediately apparent. He clearly understands the legislative and municipal landscape in Mississippi at a profound level. His analysis of the local ordinances and his strategic approach to our presentation before the planning commission were sound and well-founded. We ultimately achieved a favorable outcome, which I attribute to his knowledge of public utility and regulatory frameworks. However, for a three-star rating, I must note some practical shortcomings. While his final work product was excellent, there were periods during the engagement where communication lags were frustrating. Responses to emails could take several days, and it was sometimes difficult to get a clear timeline for next steps. His focus is clearly on high-level strategy, which is his strength, but the day-to-day client management felt a bit distant. For someone with his accolades, including multiple Lawyer of the Year recognitions, I expected a slightly more responsive partnership. He is undoubtedly a skilled attorney who gets results, but ensure your expectations for client service are aligned with his senior, big-picture approach.
