Competent real estate guidance, but communication could improve

I engaged David Shepherd at Holland & Knight to assist with the acquisition of a small commercial property in the Dallas area. His background in real estate law, including his recognition by Best Lawyers, was evident in his thorough handling of the due diligence and contract review. He identified several potential title issues that could have caused significant problems down the line. However, my experience was a mix of high-level expertise and some practical frustrations. While his analysis was sharp, response times were inconsistent, and I sometimes felt I had to follow up multiple times to get updates on straightforward matters. The billing was clear, but for the premium associated with a firm of this stature, I expected more proactive communication. He successfully navigated the transaction to closing, and the legal work was solid. For complex real estate matters, his knowledge is undeniable, but managing client expectations and accessibility could be enhanced to match his technical skill.
