A Master Strategist for Complex Commercial Real Estate

After 40 years in the industry, David Portal is the attorney you want when navigating high-stakes commercial real estate. Our firm was involved in a complex, multi-party acquisition of a mixed-use development in Manhattan, a transaction fraught with intricate financing structures and challenging leasehold negotiations. From our initial strategy session, David’s depth of knowledge was immediately apparent. He didn't just review documents; he anticipated issues we hadn't considered, particularly around the assumption of existing financing and the nuances of New York's commercial leasing laws. His guidance on structuring the purchase to optimize our long-term ownership goals was invaluable. It’s clear why he’s recognized for his work in real estate law. David and his team at Nixon Peabody were exceptionally responsive, translating complex legal concepts into clear, actionable business advice. The deal closed smoothly and on schedule, a testament to his meticulous preparation and seasoned negotiation skills. He is more than a lawyer; he is a strategic partner who protects your interests while driving the deal forward. For anyone involved in a significant commercial purchase, sale, or financing in New York, David Portal is an exceptional choice.
