Our company faced a significant contractual dispute with a major subcontractor on a multi-family residential project in the GTA, involving delays and defective work claims that threatened our timeline and budget. We engaged David Leck based on his recognized expertise in construction law and his background with Singleton Urquhart. From our first meeting, David demonstrated a profound understanding of the intricacies of construction claims. He meticulously dissected our contracts, project documentation, and correspondence, identifying key leverage points we had overlooked. His strategy focused on a robust pre-litigation negotiation, where his deep knowledge of standard form contracts (like CCDC) and case law was invaluable. He presented our position with such clarity and authority that we reached a favourable settlement without the need for a protracted court battle, saving us considerable expense and stress. David is exceptionally sharp, pragmatic, and clearly passionate about construction law. His advice was always strategic and commercially sensible. The only minor critique, and the reason for a 4-star instead of 5-star rating, was that during the busiest periods, there were occasional delays of a day or so in receiving email responses, though his associate was always available as a backup. Overall, David’s skill and dedication were instrumental in resolving our dispute efficiently. I would not hesitate to recommend him to any developer or contractor navigating complex construction disputes.
