I engaged David Kushner at Brooks, Pierce to advise on a pre-publication review for a sensitive article my media outlet was preparing. His deep knowledge of First Amendment and Communications Law was evident; his analysis of potential defamation risks was thorough and his Princeton and Duke background certainly shows in his meticulous approach. He is clearly recognized in his field for good reason. However, the experience was mixed. While the final work product was solid, there were periods of several days where I received no updates on his progress, which created some anxiety given our tight deadline. His billing was as expected for a Charlotte firm of this caliber. Overall, he resolved the legal matter competently, but the client service and responsiveness felt merely adequate, not exceptional.
