I engaged David Clarke and Perkins Coie to assist with a Series B funding round for my tech startup. There's no question about his deep expertise in venture capital law; his 18 years of experience and the professional recognition he's received are clearly earned. The final deal documents were meticulously drafted, and he identified several potential pitfalls in the term sheet that we hadn't considered. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. While David was always ultimately responsive, there were periods of significant delay in returning calls or emails, which created anxiety during time-sensitive negotiations. At times, it felt like we were being managed by his associate more than by him directly, though he was always the final voice on major points. His guidance was legally sound, but I sometimes wished for more proactive, strategic business advice alongside the strict legal analysis.
