I engaged Dana Thrasher at Constangy Brooks to assist our small business with a complex issue regarding our 401(k) plan's compliance after an acquisition. With her 36 years of experience and recognition in Chambers USA for Employee Benefits law, I was confident in her technical expertise, and that confidence was largely justified. Her analysis of the plan documents and the ERISA implications was thorough. She correctly identified the steps we needed to take to merge the plans and avoid penalties. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. While Dana is clearly knowledgeable, her communication style felt somewhat distant. Responses to emails often took several business days, and when they came, they were highly technical without much translation into actionable business steps for our management team. We sometimes felt like we were just another file. For the specific legal work—drafting amendments and advising the trustees—her service was adequate and met our basic needs. Her background from Samford University and deep specialization in qualified retirement plans is evident. Yet, for the total investment, I expected more proactive guidance and clearer, timelier dialogue. She solved our immediate problem competently, but the process lacked the personal touch and responsiveness that would warrant a higher recommendation.
