Knowledgeable on employment law, but communication could improve

I engaged Colby Ellis at Littler for guidance on a complex employee termination matter at my small business. As a recent graduate from the University of Florida, his foundational knowledge of labor and employment law, particularly from the management side, was evident. He correctly identified the risks in our proposed severance agreement and cited relevant statutes, which gave me confidence. His recognition in the area of Labor and Employment Law - Management is a testament to his technical competence. However, with just a year of experience, the practical execution sometimes felt less polished. While his legal analysis was sound, there were noticeable delays in email responses, sometimes taking two to three business days for a follow-up. This created some anxiety during time-sensitive phases of the process. Furthermore, his explanations, while accurate, occasionally leaned heavily into legal jargon without sufficient translation for a non-attorney client. For straightforward matters, his expertise is certainly valuable, but for someone needing frequent hand-holding or rapid-fire communication, expectations should be managed. He resolved our core issue adequately, but the overall client experience felt more transactional than collaborative.
