Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I engaged Christopher Cole at Taft to assist with a complex estate plan involving a family business and significant tax considerations. His credentials are impressive, and his recognition in Trusts and Estates and Tax Law by Best Lawyers is well-earned. The final documents were thorough and reflected his 13 years of experience. However, the process felt somewhat transactional. There were periods of several days where I received no updates on the draft's progress, and I sometimes had to follow up multiple times to get a response. While the legal work was solid and his analysis of the Stanford JD pedigree showed, managing client expectations on timelines and maintaining proactive communication were areas that felt just adequate. For straightforward, high-level legal drafting, he is capable, but you need to be prepared to be your own project manager.
