Competent on tax matters, but communication could be more consistent

I engaged Chris Agnoli at Ropes & Gray for assistance with a complex capital gains issue related to the sale of a commercial property in Miami. His technical knowledge in tax law is evident, and it's clear why he has received recognition in that area. The strategy he developed was sound and ultimately helped navigate the IRS reporting requirements successfully. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the final outcome was satisfactory, the process felt somewhat disjointed. Response times to emails were inconsistent, sometimes taking several days, which created anxiety during time-sensitive phases. I also found that explanations, while accurate, occasionally leaned too heavily into jargon without a clear, plain-language translation for a client like myself who isn't immersed in legal tax code. For straightforward, back-end tax structuring, Chris and his team are certainly capable. Yet, for clients who prioritize frequent touchpoints and proactive updates as part of the service, expectations may need to be managed. The competence is there, but the client service experience felt merely adequate, not exceptional.
