Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I engaged Chris Marquardt at Alston & Bird to assist with a complex employment dispute involving a former executive and non-compete agreements. His background in employment law management and litigation was immediately apparent. He provided a thorough analysis of our position, referencing relevant Georgia case law, and his recognition in those practice areas is well-deserved. The strategy he developed was sound, and we achieved a settlement that protected our core business interests. However, the experience was not without its frustrations. Communication was sometimes delayed, with responses taking several days during critical phases, which added to our stress. While his legal acumen from his Duke education and nearly a decade of experience is solid, the client service aspect felt more transactional than collaborative. For straightforward commercial or employment matters where you need a capable legal mind, he is a good choice, but be prepared to manage expectations around responsiveness and proactively follow up if you need timely updates.
