Competent and recognized, but communication could improve

I hired Chaunceton Bird from Parr Brown Gee & Loveless to handle a commercial dispute involving a breach of contract with a former business partner. Given his recognition in Commercial Litigation by Best Lawyers, I had high expectations for his legal acumen. On that front, he delivered; his analysis of the case was sharp, and he drafted a very strong motion for summary judgment that demonstrated his clear understanding of the law, which I attribute to his solid foundation from the University of Utah. However, the experience was a mixed bag. While the legal work was technically sound, I often found communication to be less than ideal. Responses to emails could take several days, and there were times I felt out of the loop on minor procedural developments. For a straightforward matter, his one year of post-graduation experience was sufficient, but I sensed a lack of proactive client management that more seasoned attorneys might offer. He is undoubtedly intelligent and recognized in his fields, including Appellate Practice, but the overall client service felt merely adequate, not exceptional.
