Competent but communication could be more consistent

I engaged Cassandra DeMelo of DeMelo Heathcote for assistance with a misdemeanor charge stemming from a misunderstanding at a local business event. Given her recognition in criminal defense by Best Lawyers, I had high expectations for her strategic insight. Her analysis of the police report and the initial advice she provided was sound and demonstrated a clear understanding of the local San Diego court procedures. However, my experience was mixed. While she was ultimately successful in negotiating a favorable diversion program, the process felt uneven. There were periods of several days where I received no response to my emails, which added significant stress during an already anxious time. When we did connect, her advice was valuable, but I often felt I had to initiate the follow-up. For straightforward matters, her competence is evident, and the recognition she's received is not unearned. Yet, for a client navigating the legal system, more proactive communication and clearer timelines on next steps would have made a substantial difference. She is capable, but the client management aspect didn't fully meet my expectations for a top-rated attorney.
