A consummate professional who delivers exceptional results

When our mid-sized manufacturing company faced a complex commercial dispute with a major financial institution over a breached credit facility agreement, the stakes were incredibly high. We needed counsel who was not only a sharp litigator but also understood the nuanced intersection of finance and law. Brian Melendez was precisely that attorney. His deep, three-decade-long experience in commercial litigation, particularly in banking and finance matters, was immediately apparent. He didn't just react to the lawsuit; he constructed a comprehensive, proactive strategy that leveraged his extensive trial background. Brian’s calm, methodical approach and his ability to distill complex financial instruments into clear arguments were invaluable. His recognition in legal directories for this specific practice area is well-deserved. Furthermore, his stature as a former president of the Minnesota State Bar Association lent significant credibility during negotiations, which he skillfully steered toward a highly favorable settlement without the need for a protracted trial. Brian and his team at Barnes & Thornburg were consistently responsive, transparent about risks, and strategic in every recommendation. He combines the intellectual rigor of his Harvard education with practical, Minnesota-savvy judgment. We felt represented by a true partner who was invested in our business outcome, not just the legal case. I would recommend Brian without reservation to any business navigating serious litigation.
