I engaged Brad Johnson at Alston & Bird to assist with a complex asset-backed securitization for our mid-sized financial institution. His deep expertise in structured finance and corporate trust law, built over his 30-year career, was immediately apparent. He is clearly a senior partner who understands the intricacies of the Banking and Finance Law landscape, and his recognition in securitization is well-deserved. The legal work product itself was thorough and technically sound, reflecting his background from the firm's trust and agency practice. However, the experience was somewhat mixed. While he was knowledgeable, communication was not always as proactive as we would have liked. There were periods where we experienced notable wait times for updates, requiring our team to follow up for status checks. For the premium rate, we expected a more seamless flow of information. In the end, the transaction closed successfully, and his legal guidance on the trust structuring was critical. He is undoubtedly a competent attorney for high-stakes finance work in Charlotte, but managing client expectations and responsiveness could be enhanced to match his substantive skill level.
