Competent and recognized, but communication could improve

I hired Asa Johnston at Fisher, Tousey, Leas & Ball to handle a complex dispute involving a family trust and related tax implications. Asa’s recognition in Litigation - Trusts and Estates and Litigation and Controversy - Tax by Best Lawyers was a primary factor in my selection, and his knowledge in these intersecting areas was evident. He provided a solid, technically sound strategy for our case. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the legal work itself was competent and he clearly understood the nuances of commercial and trust litigation, the practical aspects of client service fell short. Communication was sometimes delayed, with responses taking several days during critical phases, which added to my anxiety. There were also instances where billing summaries lacked specific detail, making it difficult to track how time was allocated against our initial estimate. Asa is undoubtedly a sharp attorney with the expertise his accolades suggest, especially for a graduate of the University of Florida's law program. For straightforward legal matters, he would be a good choice. Yet, for clients who prioritize consistent updates and proactive communication as part of the service, there is room for improvement. The outcome was acceptable, but the process felt more transactional than collaborative.
