Competent on energy transaction, but communication could improve

I engaged Andrew Mintz at Bracewell to assist with the acquisition of a small portfolio of mineral rights in the Permian Basin. His technical knowledge in oil and gas law was evident, and he was clearly familiar with the due diligence process for such transactions. It's no surprise he's recognized in that field. The final work product was solid and met our basic legal needs. However, the experience felt somewhat transactional. There were periods of several days where I received no updates, requiring me to follow up for status. While he was always polite and eventually responsive, the communication cadence didn't match the pace we expected for a deal of this size. For straightforward matters, his expertise from Tulane and his firm's resources are certainly adequate. For clients who prioritize proactive communication and more strategic guidance throughout a process, you may find the service level merely satisfactory, as I did.
