Competent on complex financing, but communication could improve

I engaged Andrew Jackson at Fasken for guidance on a multi-tranche asset-backed securitization for a mid-sized regional lender. His technical knowledge in structured finance is evident, and his recognition in the field is well-deserved. He efficiently navigated the regulatory complexities and his nearly decade of experience provided a solid foundation for the deal's structure. However, for a 3-star rating, the client experience had notable gaps. While the final work product was technically sound, there were periods of several days where our team received no updates, requiring us to initiate follow-up. His billing was precise but felt steep for the level of proactive communication we expected. For highly complex, document-intensive matters, his expertise from the University of British Columbia and his practice in Seattle is a definite asset. Yet, managing client expectations and maintaining a consistent dialogue would elevate the service significantly. He is undoubtedly capable, but the partnership aspect felt more transactional than collaborative.
