I engaged Amy Kottke and her team at Hinshaw & Culbertson to assist with the refinancing of a small commercial property portfolio in Minneapolis. Her deep experience in commercial finance and real estate law was immediately apparent. With over three decades of practice, she clearly understood the nuances of lender requirements and the transactional process. Her recognition in areas like Commercial Finance Law is well-deserved based on the technical proficiency she demonstrated in drafting and reviewing the loan documents. The work product was solid and she efficiently navigated some post-COVID market complexities that impacted our timeline. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While Amy was knowledgeable, there were periods where communication lagged. Responses to emails sometimes took several days, and it was occasionally difficult to get a clear status update without following up multiple times. For a straightforward refinancing, this was manageable, but it did create some anxiety. The billing was as expected for a firm of this caliber. Overall, Amy is a capable attorney who gets the legal job done correctly, but the client service aspect—particularly proactive communication—felt merely adequate. I would consider her for future matters but would set clearer expectations upfront regarding response times.
