For nearly 30 years, Alan MacEwan has advised businesses, entrepreneurs and investors on a comprehensive spectrum of corporate matters. Alan focuses on mergers and acquisitions, although he prefers to think of his practice more as “buying and selling companies.” He has successfully negotiated over 100 such transactions ranging from $1 million to $300 million, and combines client-specific expertise with creative problem-solving to deliver on his clients’ transaction objectives. And, working in a way that is enjoyable for all parties makes the transaction even more rewarding; having a sense of humor doesn’t hurt either!Alan’s clients include small to middle market organizations, closely held and family-owned corporations and companies, individual investors, and investor groups. The personal side of M&A – working directly with owners and senior management – is tremendously rewarding for Alan. He equally enjoys assisting these owner-managers with their post-transaction corporate legal needs and has advised numerous boards of directors over the years.Alan has dedicated a significant amount of time and energy to enhancing the legal profession. For eight years, he served on the ABA Editorial Committee that published the Model Stock Purchase Agreement, or “RMSPA.” Alan is also devoted to nurturing the legal minds of the future and has taught negotiated transactions at Boston University School of Law as an adjunct professor since 2013.Alan enjoys spending time with his family of five (plus two dogs), cooking, and playing racket sports. Deeply committed to civic engagement and community service, Alan has acted as a Corporator on the board of Maine Health/Maine Medical Center for 26 years, and he volunteers at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen.
